Day 1
Hi everyone,
Today is Day 1!!! 😁I cannot believe this day is here already. I don't think it has officially/actually sank in yet that this process has actually started. I have mixed emotions, I am so excited and happy for C however, I'm sad he will be gone for so long. Now let's go back to where I left off, this past week went well. The family orientation meeting in our home town was good. They talked about what to expect, gave us info about the academy and we watched short clips and seen picture from the academy as well. After that we spent the week getting everything we needed for the academy and visited family again. We literally went to the store everyday this week! Not just one store, multiple a day! It was a hassle to find court shoes with white bottoms! We finally found some, thankfully.
Once the week was over we drove out to Sacramento Sunday morning for the orientation. It was surreal actually being there. We left our hometown at about 4am and arrived there around 7:30. Since the orientation was at 9:00am we stopped and had breakfast, started getting ready and headed over. I am glad it was super easy to get there and parking was easy too. The orientation started with different officers speaking about what to expect. We watched a video and heard from cadets, a wife and counselor. It was nice hearing their stories and getting info about counselors you can call if you're stressed and having a hard time. It was also reassuring hearing this first week will be fairly easy since it is a paperwork/how to deal with stress week. We had an intermission where families were able to get water and cookies. However the cadets left to the chow hall. C told me they were yelled at and given a taste of what to expect in the academy. C came back a little flustered, which I was surprised by, but who wouldn't be! Grown men yelling and screaming has to be a little intimidating. After the presentations were over we took a tour of the academy and then released at around 12:30pm. After that we headed to target to get a few last minute items and went back to our hotel and took a nap. We then woke up and tried finding a place for C to get a haircut since he didn't think his hair was short enough. We stopped at one place and they were going to charge 22 dollars! I about had a heart attack when I heard how expensive it was. We decided to leave and try another place and they wanted 17 dollars!! (let me remind you C's hair was already very very short however he wanted to be safe, he just had a haircut the day before) We figured we would just head back to Target and buy clippers and he could use them throughout the academy. The clippers were 30 bucks so it was so worth the buy! We then went to have dinner and then got some frozen yogurt and headed back to the hotel for the night.
We woke up at 6am today and left to the academy at around 6:45. We arrived there at around 7:10 and parked and said a prayer and final see-you-later. I am so proud of myself for holding it together and not crying when saying goodbye. We have had a lot of goodbyes and everyone I ALWAYS cry. lol However I could see how nervous he was and I wanted to be strong for C. He is always the strong one so I didn't want to worry him or make him upset because I was. So I held it together and left. I did cry a bit on the drive home but I kept telling myself this is just temporary and I will get to see him this weekend which helped a lot. The cadets were told to get out of there car at 7:30 and once they did they lined up in alphabetical order and waited there until 8am. I dropped C off and left the academy grounds at about 7:40, I arrived home and took a nap from the hectic weekend. I was so glad to be home. After that C said they headed to class. In class they signed papers and learned about stress management. They also went to the store on the academy grounds and had to hand over a $521 check! It is for some gear they are getting, a duffle bag and writing and note taking supplies. We've spent so much money on things for the academy already and I know there is more money we will have to fork out! I'll be happy when the money spending is over! lol I'm a penny pincher/saver. lol
I hope these next 6 months fly by...... Let this journey begin!

You can do this A. Just take it one day at a time and remember it's only temporary. It will be tough at times, but remember, when you get to see your cadet recieve that badge and transition into an officer- it'll all be worth it! Don't be afraid to reach out to me if you need anything!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until that day! I really hope it goes by fast! thank you so much for your support and help! <3
DeleteHi! My fiancé is in this same academy class. CTC II-17. I love your blog! I have one too and have found it's made the days go by a little quicker. It's good to know there's wives and significant others out there going through the same thing. Hang in there! :)
